Content Manager & Part-Time Snow Queen
Elsa Thomasma is a dedicated volunteer and a real-life hero from Sturgis, Michigan. She studied and received her Bachelor's degree of Psychology and Sociology at Grand Valley State University. Her philanthropic adventure started volunteering and working with children at a young age. In 2009 her international career started when she worked as a volunteer in Tacloban City, Philippines through Volunteers for the Visayans. This opened her eyes to a world with a different culture filled by endless needs and possibilities.
Eventually she began fundraising to build a community evacuation center in a local village called Cangumbang. The project was named "Project Ark". Due to her hard work, a whole village was saved from the super typhoon Haiyan. A fun fact about Elsa is that she understands and speaks some Waray-Waray. She is also known to be the "Ice Queen" of the Content Team, but contrary to popular belief, the cold really bothers her.
Currently, she is promoting meaningful travel opportunities around the world as a Content Manager at GAPLabs. She also continues to assist Volunteers for the Visayans, Inc. with fundraising and communications and is the Director of the GoAbroad Foundation.
